Lumbar spine
Do you ever wonder what really happens in the lumbar spine beyond “core stability” and “protect your back”?
The lumbar spine is often reduced to fear-based cues and oversimplified advice: “Don’t flex,” “Engage your core,” “Keep your back safe.”
But beneath all that noise lies a beautifully complex system that is designed to bear load, adapt to movement, and work together with the pelvis and thoracic spine.
In this course we look deeper.
You’ll learn how its structure affects function,
how movement patterns occur from stability and mobility (or the lack of it),
and what happens when things go wrong. From disc-related changes to instability and movement avoidance.
We will go through programming sessions where we will program specifically for the pathologies related to the lumbar spine.
This series doesn’t ask you to memorize, but to understand what is going on with the person in front of you.
Using the knowledge you gained you will be able to recognise patterns, make sense of what you see in the studio, and create programming that restores strength, trust, and adaptability.
Do you feel
…like clients with low back pain tell you 10 different symptoms, but none of them match what you’re seeing in their movement?
You try to connect the dots, but nothing lines up cleanly.
…unsure whether to load someone or protect them especially when they say everything hurts?
It feels like one wrong choice could worsen the pain and you don't want to be responsible for it.
…frustrated that your cues don’t land because the client defaults to the same rigid or overprotective strategy every time?
Even when you KNOW they understand the words.
…like you can spot the pattern, but you don’t know how to change it without making the client feel unsafe or overwhelmed?
You see the problem, but not the pathway.
…confident in the anatomy, but not confident in what actually matters in the first three sessions?
Programming feels messy, and you’re not sure what to prioritise.

WHAT YOU GET
anatomy and biomechanics made practical
You’ll learn how the lumbar spine actually behaves during real movement, not just in textbooks. Clear explanations, demonstrations and movement examples help you connect structure to what you see in the studio.
Common lumbar pathologies and what they really mean
We break down disc issues, stenosis, facet pain, nerve irritation and non-specific low-back pain in a way that’s evidence-based and immediately usable. No fear-based language, no outdated rules.
Matwork exercises you can use straight away
A library of matwork ideas, regressions, progressions and teaching strategies that help you change movement patterns safely. You’ll know exactly what to try and why it works.
Research, live coaching and community support
